5th ORAFTI Research Conference
Inulin and oligofructose have moved into the mainstream of functional ingredients and now consumer education must intensify. This was the message of the opening presentations at the 5th ORAFTI Research Conference at the Harvard Medical School, Boston.
The research conference was organised to provide a forum for scientists to discuss the latest evidence on the health benefits of inulin and oligofructose. Dr Johanna Dwyer DSc, Senior Nutrition Scientist at the Office of Dietary Supplements - National Institutes of Health, Maryland - set a challenge to researchers, saying that consumers need clear information on the doses of oligofructose and inulin that produce beneficial effects.
The two-day event featured six informative and interactive sessions focusing on one specific benefit of inulin and oligofructose. Topics included Bone Health, Intestinal Health, Gut Peptides and Energy Metabolism, Immunity and Inflammation, Colon Cancer Risk and the benefits for specific target groups.
